“Wisdom comes from mistakes made” – I have made more than my share which means you get to skip some.
Start-Up and Early-Stage development can be overwhelming. Often the corporate culture that develops is not what the founders had intended. Corporate culture needs to be planned, monitored, and even nurtured. The difference in the performance of teams with different corporate cultures can be dramatic. Poor corporate culture can affect the realization of goals or be the reason for high personnel turnover rates and even failure.
Eventually, entrepreneurs will be called upon to establish a board of directors. Sounds innocent enough, however, the road to Hell can be paved with the decisions the entrepreneur then makes. Choosing a board of directors is a critical function, especially because it may be difficult to change or have unintended consequences. Initially, you want to pick a board that will support your vision; however one needs to balance that support against investors’ desire to have independent oversight.
Developing long-term strategic alternatives is equally important. They say “no plan survives first contact with the enemy”.
I can help your company in ways business school overlooked. The subtleties of success can be profound.
I can offer your company valuable insight.
At seven years old, I started my first job which was stuffing advertisement letters into envelopes for my Father’s young retail business. After 20 years, I did every job possible within the company, which became the largest “Home Entertainment” chain in Northern CA.
It is no surprise I became a serial entrepreneur and have accumulated over 30 years of C-level leadership & experience in a variety of industries like Energy, Retail, Manufacturing, and Innovation.
I founded IntraCom, a telemedicine company in ’96, and grew it to 50 employees, and 500 stockholders, and was valued at $80MM by UBS in the year 2000. As CEO, I raised $14MM and led the Company to the IPO stage.
After retiring as a CEO, I started Vision Works IP Corp, a technology incubator in 2002 which innovates in a wide variety of industries including Automobile, Advance Learning, Water Purification, Autonomous Vehicles, Consumer Health, and others.
I have been awarded 68 United States patents to date. GOOGLE, Apple, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, and other Fortune 500 companies are among my paid license holders.
I am active in advising start-up and early-stage companies in business management, development, funding, innovation, and intellectual property concerns.
I am also active in Toastmasters, mentoring young minds, and am an active volunteer firefighter in Mineral, WA; but my most cherished accomplishments come from flying airplanes and experimental & ultralight gliders.
I am married and currently have two dogs and two horses.
